Ethernet Communications
The Agilent Technologies 1100 modules can use Ethernet ® as
the method of communications for instrument control and for
sending digital data to the external data system. Ethernet
communication is not standard on the Agilent 1100 chain. The
Ethernet connection is made at the back of the 1100 chain.
There are two types of Ethernet cables:
An Ethernet crossover cable is used when the Agilent 1100
chain is connected directly to the Galaxie Acquisition Server
PC.
A standard Ethernet patch cable is used when the Agilent
1100 chain is connected to a company Ethernet network.
The Agilent 1100 modules uses TCP/IP (Transmission Control
Protocol / Internet Protocol) to communicate over the Ethernet
network and needs to be given a unique IP address to identify
the instrument.
A BOOTP Server or a DHCP server is used to send IP
addresses to TCP/IP devices.
The BOOTP Server lists Ethernet addresses along with the IP
addresses that are to be assigned to the corresponding devices.
To known how to configure the BOOTP server, refer to the
Galaxie installation Guide.
It is also possible to give a fixed IP address to the Agilent 1100
chain. To know how to fix the IP address of the Agilent 1100
chain, refer the appendix Configuring a fixed IP address.
NOTE: The BOOTP server provided by Galaxie is installed during the installation of the
Galaxie software.
Following are examples of connections between Galaxie and
Agilent 1100 modules.
